Small 18oz Scottish Tappit Hen. A traditional Measure handcast from Pewter using Antique Bronze moulds.
Featured in the Hollywood Blockbuster "Harry Potter"
In 18th Century Scotland, Tappit Hens of mulled claret would be taken from the coaching inns to warm and sustain the passengers in the coach outside. The claret would then be poured into a small Pewter beaker or 'Tassie' for drinking. The Tassie was made to fit within the neck of the measure when empty and one can occasionally come across a Tappit Hen which still has its Tassie in situ. The earliest known Tappit Hen has an Edinburgh Castle touch mark dated 1669.
